Shopping with and Supporting Friends for The Holidays

It’s been a busy few weeks with decorating, cleaning and de-cluttering (is that a real word??) my house and getting together with friends and family for the holidays and with just a few days until Christmas is here, I still feel like there is so much left to be done.

I must say that since I’m at home with my 3 toddler boys it is hard for me to go out shopping and this holiday season more than ever I’ve done most of my shopping online. I am proud to say that I’ve supported some families along the way whose moms and dads are work at home parents and who offer such wonderfully unique products.

Here are some of my great shopping finds this season:

I bought beautiful handcrafted glass ornaments from my friend Aprilee at her online etsy store Artistry Jewelry Studios

Recipe for Chocolate Cupcakes

If you’re looking to celebrate in style this Halloween, then look no further. Here are the perfect cupcakes to make your Halloween that extra bit special. Different flavor chocolates are available to please the tastes of all that want to have a try, if they dare!




Makes: 12 Cupcakes
Ease Of preparation: Easy
Cooking Time: 20 minutes

Equipment
Sieve
Piping bag + Nozzle
Muffin tray

Ingredients

Cupcake Ingredients
85g Dark Cooking Chocolate
85g Butter, cut into 2cm cubes
100g Soft Light Brown Sugar
1 Egg
1 Egg Yolk at room temperature
½ tsp Vanilla Extract
1 tbsp Soured Cream
75g Self-Raising Flour
1 tbsp Cocoa Powder
Pinch Salt

Icing Ingredients
30g Confectioners Icing Sugar
2tbsp Organic Cocoa Powder
75g of Soft Unsalted Butter
25g of meted Dark Chocolate for cooking (optional)
Boo Box shapes to decorate
Halloween Pumpkin Munchkins to decorate

Method

1. Preheat the oven to 180/ Gas mark 4 and line a muffin tin with 12 paper cases
2. Put the chocolate, butter and Sugar in a heatproof bowl and place over simmering water and allow to melt, stirring continuously. Set aside to cool slightly.
3. Whisk together the eggs, vanilla and soured cream. Stir this into the cooled chocolate mixture. Sift over the flour, cocoa powder and salt and fold in. Spoon into the paper cases, filing to around 2/3 full.
4. Bake in a preheated oven for approx 20 minutes, until the muffins are risen and just firm to the touch. Allow to cool for 5 minutes, then transfer to a cooling rack
5. To make the chocolate topping melt the dark chocolate over lightly simmering water. Allow to cool.
6. Beat the butter, confectioner sugar and cocoa powder together. Add in the cooled chocolate a table spoon at a time until a thick consistency is achieved. Thick enough to pipe.
7. Place the icing into a piping bag fitted with a piping nozzle of your choice and start from the centre of the cake and pipe outwards.
8. Decorate with Boo Box! Shapes and Halloween Pumpkin Munchkins

Autumn Wishes from Online Shopping Boutique

Happy Fall Everyone!

I'm enjoying the wonderful crisp fall weather and gearing up for the upcoming holiday season. It’s been a while since I’ve posted on this blog…but I’m back!!
I’ve been focusing on my kids (who are now three and heading off to preschool in a 2 weeks) Wooo Hoooo! And I’ve been focusing on my shopping social network too.

I love jewelry…which woman doesn’t, right? I especially love handcrafted jewelry. I am so fortunate to have a friend who makes the most unique jewelry and why I love her jewelry even more!! It’s at a price I can afford.

Let me introduce you to my friend, Aprilee, the creative genius behind Artisan Jewelry Studios. I purchased some jewelry from her as gifts for others but mostly for me. I always look forward to mail after I purchase because they are always gift wrapped or packaged so beautifully and I can’t wait to see my surprise!!! I’m Aprilee Lawson, the creator behind Artistry Jewelry Studios. I grew up in Maryland. The only girl, raised with an older & younger brother. I was always creative and loved working with my hands. So much that I went to Trade School and became a Certified Carpenter! I was such a good, hard worker that whenever a new guy wanted to apply for a job, my boss would point to me and say "If you can keep-up with her, you've got a job." I only witnessed one guy getting the job! LOL!

When I was in high school I became very interested in working with pastels. I loved them for their "blendability". I hadn't done any work with my hands for some time. When my friend signed-up for a Jewelry Construction Class and didn't want to go alone, I signed up with her. I was actually very reluctant to go. I quickly began developing skills and thursting for more. I began devoting myself to learning all I could about different mediums and techniques. Within the first few classes, I was working with jewelry at home. As time progressed, I was asked to take-over teaching the class. I love researching and learning new things, so jewelry seems to be my perfect "fit".

Jewelry is more than a chain draped around one's neck. It has defined one's class, ethnicity, hopes and dreams, seemingly forever. I am caught-up in all jewelry was, is and can be. Jewelry has redefined who I am as a person, and what I stand for! I have just begun blogging about the history of jewelry! Follow my blog and have fun learning! I always do! I am getting ready to expand my accessories to include crochet collars (yes, I also crochet) and vintage-style millinery hats, headbands, etc. You never know what I'll be doing next!

My friend and fellow work at home business owner, Liz Felgate of Liz Felgate Crafts, designs the most adorable handcrafted cards. I saw her work on her website and just had to have one, or two or three. And for those of you who know me, you know exactly why I need three. LOL!

My sons will be turning 3 in October and when I saw a photo of Liz's Thomas the train card, I just had to ask her to custom make birthday cards for my boys. So I bought one birthday card for each wee one and waited anxiously for them to get to me in the mail. When they got here…they looked so amazing…even better in person. The quality of the card stock Liz uses is very sturday and durable -- no flimsy cards at all. About Liz Felgate & Felgate Crafts:
Originally from England I have been living and crafting in the US for nearly 9 years now. I love making greetings cards for all occasions and started making them as I could never find the right one for that special person or occasion. Over the years my designs have evolved and changed as I gain new experiences and inspiration from the world around me, along with learning new techniques.

I live with my husband Clive, Jelly the dog, and Casper the cat in Maryland. I love all sorts of things that are creative, including decorating, gardening and cooking. I also love to travel and see new places and I'm working through my 'Bucket List' of things to do and see. My latest accomplishments includes doing my first marathon and a triathlon.

In 2009 I decided that I wanted to turn my hobby of making cards into a business and so created my store on Etsy. Sales were a little slow to start but are getting quite steady now, and I'm learning along the way about all of the networking out there. I also sell my cards in a local gallery in Brunswick, MD and hope to get my cards into several other shops in nearby towns.
